Why choose mechanical breakdown insurance ?
All motorists are at risk of experiencing a breakdown, regardless of the age of their vehicle. This risk increases with the age and wear of the mechanical parts.
A new vehicle is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty: this warranty covers a period ranging from 24 to 84 moths, depending on the make and model of the car. But once this warranty has expired, a breakdown can be very expensive for the motorist.
An Opteven warranty could provide you with:
- A full range of cover for mechanical, electrical and electronic parts, as well as remote diagnosis to assess your vehicle.
- The benefit of a courtesy car while your vehicle is being repaired.
- Cover for vehicles up to 20 years old and 200,000 km on the date of sale
- Payment options – up front or in monthly instalments.
- Quality service from our fully trained Claims team including technical experts.
- Plus other benefits, depending on the warranty you choose.

Find out more about our claims process
It’s always preferable to return your vehicle to the dealership who sold you the vehicle, especially if they have repair facilities. However, if this is not possible, please use the Repairer Locator to find an Opteven approved repairer in your area. Give the repairer a call and book in directly.
We aim to make the claims process as straightforward as possible. Once your vehicle has been inspected for repair, and the garage has registered your claim with us, using the online portal, we will review the claim and aim to provide an immediate response but guarantee that we will review it within 1 hour. If the garage has sent an estimate to UKClaims@opteven.com we aim to review the claim within 48 hours.
If your claim is more complex, we may require additional photographs or information before we can approve the claim. We even have a tool called Kwikcast which allows our technicians to contact the repairer direct and share a live video with them to assess the damage on your vehicle. Your repairer should keep you updated throughout the process.
It is preferable to use one of our recommended repairers. These approved garages work in conjunction with us so understand the requirements to make a claim, helping the customer journey to be as smooth as possible.
It is possible to use your own repairer if you have been unsuccessful in booking your vehicle into a listed repairer. Please note that the repairer must be willing to contact Opteven directly after the diagnosis of the failure has been identified. Please check your policy to see if diagnosis costs are included as part of an authorised claim.
Please refer to the specific cancellation terms and conditions which can be found within your documentation.
Reimbursement is made once the repair is complete and is usually paid directly to the repairer who supplies their bank details to Opteven via our online portal. Any queries can be made by emailing: UKClaimsinvoices@opteven.com
