Opteven’s latest claim statistics give us a useful insight into the most reliable second-hand car brands – but as all dealers know, reliability is just one of the factors that drives demand.
By brand, we looked at the percentage of warranties that had claims against them in 2025 – and Toyota, Mazda and Seat came out on top as the most reliable second-hand cars. With less than 3% of warranties claimed against for all three, it’s certainly a solid endorsement for these popular brands. And for those where reliability is key – here’s the top 10:

For anyone buying a second-hand car, the statistics are certainly food for thought. However for many, status, performance or styling might actually be the reason behind their brand of choice, which is where an upgraded warranty comes into its own. Overall, 20% of Opteven’s warranties are claimed on over their warranty lifetime, with some car brands having startling claims rates of 48%, 57%, 83% and higher! But if a customer has their heart set on a particular brand, any worries over reliability can be negated, if they know they are covered if a problem strikes.
