Pre-Owned Motorbike sales remain bouyant
Pre-owned motorbike sales remain strong – Opteven makes life simpler for bikers.
Fun and freedom are still high on the agenda for UK drivers and riders amid a cost of living crisis, but could the motorcycle sales statistics reveal something else: a switch from four wheels to two? According figures published by the MCIA (Motor Cycle Industry Association), sales of new motorcycles are up 13% on this time last year, with moped sales up over 25%. Mid-range motorcycles are the most popular category, meaning luxury premium brands are not where it’s at. 650CC models are the top performers – practical bikes, neither built for speed and performance, not glitz and glamour. These are the roadhorses, the bikes people use for their everyday needs and a little touring on the side.
At Opteven, our eyes are on sales of used motorbikes – we prefer to call them pre-owned. Demand remains stable – up a little – in the used bike market, and to meet that demand head on, we’ve developed a simplified motobike warranty that’s generously featured and covers a vast range of parts and components against mechanical or electrical failure. Whereas we normally offer three levels of cover, with eligibility dependent upon age and mileage, we’ve widened the gates and now have one-level warranty that does what it says on the tin – covers everything you need protection for.
Used bike sales have remained strong across a broad range of marques and classes. The Royal Enfield brand is seeing a resurgence, with it’s retro-classic styles and more modern adventure styles all popular with riders. Adventure bikes are going out of favour with more practical and lightweight models pulling in the riders. Our experts speculate that the lower fuel costs of bikes compared with cars, and the stunning summer weather have prompted more people to opt for lower running costs on more of their journeys, enjoying the ride, with fewer hassles finding parking spaces in crowded car parks.
Our new Secure motorbike warranty was born from research and from our close working relationship with some of the largest motorbike dealers in the UK. Bikers who’ve made the decision to buy, not suprisingly are keen to get the rubber on the road and don’t want difficult decisions over which level of cover is right for them. We made a policy we think every biker will love as much as their ride.
